Some action shots from the first half, when Boca (dark blue) was defending on our end of the stadium.

Coca-Cola advertisements were all over the stadium, but not in their usual red and white colouring. That would conflict with the team’s colours (blue and yellow). So instead, they chose black. Nice and neutral.

I woke up my first morning in Buenos Aires to realize that it was Sunday - the day the Boca Juniors play their weekly futbol (soccer) match. I got organized quickly and made my way to the stadium, hours before the game was set to start, but late enough that there were few good spots to stand in the Boca supporters section. In the end, I was sitting (a) in the direct sun for five hours, and (b) in an area where supporters of the opposing team (i) spat on us, (ii) threw drinks us, and in one instance, (iii) urinated on us. Awesome!
That said, the Boca fans were loads of fun. They lost 3-2 to cross-town rivals Velez, despite outplaying them most of the game. Each time Velez scored, the Boca fans responded by chanting really loudly to get their team back into it. And when Boca scored, they got really pumped.
As the game started, a huge banner was dropped over the other side of the stadium, reading Como No Somos Los Unicos, Decidimos Ser Los Mejores (“As we are not the only ones, we decided to be the best.”)
